Sip sustainability: a comprehensive marketing strategy for the ‘ carry your own cup’ campaign

Abstract

The "Sip Sustainability: Carry Your Own Cup" campaign encourages the use of reusable cups to reduce the environmental impact of single-use disposable cups. This initiative aims to minimize the consumption of disposable cups, which is one of the major contributors to landfill, by getting consumers to bring their own cups to cafes and coffee shops. The project aims to leverage marketing techniques — financial incentives, behavioral nudges, and local partnerships with cafes — to change consumer attitudes and behaviors toward sustainability. The campaign aims to develop a sustainable practice through targeting local cafes and collaborating with businesses, bringing visible benefits to both customers and vendors alike. The campaign will do this by incentivizing with loyalty points, discounts and direct partnerships, turning reusable cups into a simple, convenient choice that lets coffee drinkers feel good about their purchase. Alongside the environmental advantages of using reusable cups, the research investigates the role of psychological factors, such as social proof and loss aversion, in prompting long-term behavior change. Data collection through surveys and continued customer interactions monitors the effectiveness of these strategies, measure consumer satisfaction, and evaluates the environmental benefits derived from reduced single-use cup consumption. Ultimately, the campaign highlights the benefits of reusable cups, promotes local businesses, and contributes to a cleaner planet.
