Sugarsmart insights

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus, the most common type of diabetes, occurs when the beta cells of pancreas do not produce enough insulin or when the cells of our body do not respond to it properly. Consumption of sugary beverages and unhealthy food can increase the risk of diabetes. Our project is a small-scale public health initiative that seeks to address the increasing prevalence of type 2 diabetes cases and promote preventative measures. By utilizing elements of life sciences, chemical engineering and computer science, we strive to create a website- ‘SugarSmart Insights’ which will be an informative and user-friendly platform to increase public knowledge about diabetes. Through different sections of the website we aim to present our research on diabetes, factors affecting diabetes, a diabetes prediction system for females, analysis of sugar content of sweetened beverages and lastly an exploration of a possible link between consumption of sugar sweetened beverages and blood glucose levels.
