Abstract
This thesis examines the socio-economic factors influencing menstrual health management among women in low and middle-income communities in India, with a focus on a case study from the Navkar Mandal Group in Ahmedabad. Through a systematic literature review, this study identifies key barriers to the adoption of menstrual hygiene products, such as economic constraints, cultural stigmas, and lack of access to adequate facilities. The literature review highlights the significant gap between policy intentions and practical outcomes, especially in rural and underserved urban areas. Insights from the Navkar Mandal Group further illuminate how these barriers manifest at a community level and affect daily practices and health outcomes. This study underscores the need for targeted policy interventions, community education, and infrastructure improvements to enhance menstrual hygiene management in India. The findings advocate for a multi-faceted approach that includes both macro and micro-level adjustments to ensure that all women have access to safe and affordable menstrual health products and services.
