The rapid digitalization of recruitment practices has transformed the way employers and candidates interact, making social media platforms a critical part of modern hiring strategies. This project investigates the evolving role of social media in recruitment by focusing on three core areas: which social media platform is most commonly used for recruitment, the key factors contributing to its popularity, whether recruitment through social media can be considered a marketing tactic, and whether it serves as a cost-effective hiring solution. Data were collected from 35 employers and 65 candidates through structured online surveys. The findings indicate that LinkedIn is overwhelmingly the most preferred platform among both employers and candidates, valued for its professional environment and career-focused features. The analysis also reveals that while direct hiring remains a priority, employer branding plays a substantial role in influencing candidate perceptions and application decisions. Furthermore, the study highlights that recruitment via social media is perceived to be significantly more cost effective than traditional newspaper advertising, offering better targeting and lower campaign costs. However, limitations such as the confidentiality of organizational recruitment budgets and the absence of advanced cost-measurement tools constrained a precise financial comparison. This research contributes to professional practice by offering evidence-based insights for optimizing social media recruitment strategies, balancing marketing and hiring activities, and making informed budgetary decisions. The study concludes by recommending further exploration into emerging platforms and longitudinal tracking of recruitment outcomes to better understand the long-term impact of social media on talent acquisition.
