Campus-wide Smart Utility Billing & Consumption Model

Abstract

The problem that we are addressing in this project is the high electricity consumption and high billing in the GICT building of Ahmedabad University. In the current situation, the university is not aware of where they are using the most electricity in the university, where they are wasting it or how they should divide the cost.To address this we embarked on the project whereby we observed the GICT building in detail. We counted all ceiling fans, tube lights and air conditioner capacity in the entire building. We collected the electricity bills from the Torrent Power from April 2024 to March 2025.We collected the electricity bills from the Torrent Power from April 2024 to March 2025.We calculated the amount of electricity each equipment is using by dividing its kwh with the bill.In our analysis, Air conditioning was the highest electricity consumer that is approximately 55-65 percent of the total consumption. The second highest electricity usage is utilized by lights and fans and the remaining is used by other equipment such as computers, elevators and servers. Based on our findings and research and recommend that the AC temperature should be kept at around 24°C - 26°C. We may install lights motion sensors in the classrooms, as well as change the worn-out bulbs with LED lights. We have created a web site that might demonstrate consumption data that may be viewed in real time. This project offers an easy and workable prototype which can not only be applied in GICT building but also in all buildings in the Ahmedabad University Campus.
