Abstract
The question that we were attempting to answer when we embarked on this project appeared to be a simple one: but how does a young social business like SignSetu garner CSR and philanthropic funds to expand? At its conclusion, we realized that the question is not as straightforward as that. The CSR expenditure of India has increased considerably due to the Companies Act of 2013 that has made it mandatory. voluntary, and charitable concern with education and disability inclusion is on the increase. Funds are not lacking there is disjuncture between what institutions demand and what most initiatives can offer. Parth Sir had a fantastic idea with him which is not communicated well will lose to a good idea which is well designed. It was one of the most helpful things we learnt. SignSetu is the first platform in India that is going to respond to the particular, underlying problem of. instruction of pre-language Deaf students using Indian Sign Language. Its pilot findings are factual, recorded and proven. We think the toolkit and strategy that came out of this project provides SignSetu with the frame upon which it can enter into those discussions with confidence. What is bigger, but more important, is the nature of inclusive education. It doesn’t mean that one should develop a special superior platform for the same or a specific grant proposal. Instead, it is regarding the transformation of the system which was not originally designed considering Deaf children. SignSetu is accomplishing that task - one classroom, one child, one lesson at a time. That work in three schools can be multiplied by three hundred, the right funding, and the right partnerships can make it work.
