Abstract

Description

At this session of Ahmedabad University’s Seminar and Lecture Series, Professor Anand Pandian, Professor and Department Head, Department of Anthropology, Johns Hopkins University, and Professor Savyasaachi, Professor, Department of Sociology, Jamia Millia Islamia University, discuss ‘Resilience, Unease, Vulnerability: Thinking through methods in the Social Sciences’. They address crucial questions: How might we think about the value and purpose of our myriad researches into the concreteness of lived human reality? How might we debate the comparable merits of thought and action? Must engagement with the world only take the form of response and reaction, or are there other modes of attunement? How do humans, along with other species, wrest survival, resilience, even creativity, from seemingly insurmountable odds? Is it possible to visit, with a spirit of sympathetic inquiry, the life-worlds of those whose views we find troubling or unacceptable?
