Addressing seasonal inventory losses and workforce management at spring haven

Abstract

Our research study investigates operational problems at the chicory powder manufacturing facility, Spring Haven in Jamnagar, Gujarat, which contains problems with seasonal inventory waste and improper staff management. The research employs a three-disciplinary research method that integrates operational strategies with financial and psychological frameworks to discover organizational causes, then proposes continuing solutions. The manufacturing unit faces two main problems which heavy monsoon rainfall damages stored inventory, and an unorganized workforce management system creates production efficiency losses. Our team used mixed methods to deploy FIFO and Exponential Smoothing alongside Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) inventory models as the basis to predict demand, then improve stock rotation and lower expenses. Additionally, the team conducted a qualitative study, which demonstrated staff discontent because of role confusion, together with insufficient training and unpredictable daily payments. We proposed multiple solutions for addressing these issues, which included self-managed teams alongside job rotation and fixed monthly salaries to increase accountability, as well as morale and attendance. An implementation of Lean Management principles with human capital theory enables the resolution of operational deficiencies. The implementation of both an optimized inventory system with enabled worker authority leads to substantial business profitability, together with operational strength improvements. The findings match global research on sustainable small business management, which demonstrates how quantitative decision-making powers local industrial challenge resolution. The research provides both a practical framework that can be duplicated by similar manufacturers and demonstrates how interdisciplinary knowledge can be integrated into professional settings.
