Abstract
In the healthcare sector, patient waiting times within hospitals remain a critical concern, influenced by inadequate doctor-to-patient ratios, resource scarcity, and escalating demand. This study employs simulation modelling to dissect the intricacies surrounding patient waiting times, focusing on the service sector of the healthcare industry. The primary objective is to identify the root causes contributing to prolonged waiting periods and discern why private hospitals potentially outperform their public counterparts in this regard. The study aims to unravel the underlying mechanisms driving patient waiting times by scrutinising operational efficiencies, behavioural dynamics, and financial considerations. Through comparative analysis between public and private healthcare institutions, the study endeavours to unveil critical insights into the factors shaping waiting times and explore potential avenues for improvement. The research methodology involves developing digital prototypes that mirror real-world hospital operations, allowing for a comprehensive analysis of various dimensions influencing patient care. This research aims to offer evidence-based insights that can inform strategic interventions and enhance the quality of healthcare services. This study aims to foster a healthier and more efficient healthcare ecosystem that prioritises patient well-being and satisfaction by identifying the factors contributing to extended waiting times and proposing data-driven solutions.
