A Story of India: A Multi-dimensional analysis of Operations, Customer Experience & Digital Presence

Abstract

Story of India is a multi-designer store, based in Ahmedabad, India. Founded by Sapna Patel it has flagship stores in Ahmedabad and Vadodara and an online presence. The brand is rooted in heritage craft, slow fashion, sustainability, and ethical production. Story of India isn’t driven by trends instead, it focuses on cultural storytelling through women’s designer wear. An expansion of operations of Story of India has revealed four compounding disconnects within the business: a digital presence creating awareness, but failing to convert it into purchase intent instead, it focuses on cultural storytelling through women’s designer wear. An expansion of operations of Story of India has revealed four compounding disconnects within the business: a digital presence creating awareness, but failing to convert it into purchase intent instore touch-points and customer interactions that are not designed to create loyalty or drive repeat purchase marketing communications that are generic and unjudged and supply chain inefficiencies such as inventory mismatches and long lead times that limit fulfilment capacity. The net effect of crossing all these is a leveraged-poorly sustainability story, which, though being central to a brand image, is not communicated or operationalised. In this project, an end-to-end operational analysis of Story of India is done, including production planning, inventory management, and order fulfilment, to reveal gaps, measure inefficiencies, and recommend actionable, scalable improvements. It is meant to help the brand grow customer base and geographical reach without compromising the basic tenet of the brand, which is quality, sustainable and crafted. The project will provide a decision-support structure with particular recommendations in accordance with the long-term vision of the brand - such that Story of India can achieve higher customer satisfaction, efficient operations, and positioning in the luxury segment of retail, without losing the focus on sustainability and ethical fashion in the core of all decisions.
