Abstract

This project focuses on providing a viable solution to the issue faced by the Blind People Association’s “Vision in the Dark.” It is a dark room that leads visitors through the replicas of various everyday objects, structures, and setups. A visually impaired guide takes the participants through the whole setup. However, the guide is local and only familiar with the local language. The challenge faced by BPA is that, because of the language barrier, they are unable to cater to people who visit from other states and countries. This project aims to solve the problem of the language barrier while providing a cost-effective solution to eliminate the involvement of the guide. Furthermore, we looked into an automated functioning solution that is suggested in the study to remove the issue of financial stress, guide availability, and audibility. A thorough data collection has been done to study and draw a comparative analysis between the preferability of a human guide or an automated functioning in the overall experience. The methodology used in the project is chronological, starting from understanding the financial stress of BPA, coming up with various computerized solutions, selecting the most easily available and cost-effective tool, and developing multilingual scripts, which are recorded for being set up in the computerized functioning device and finally installation at multiple checkpoints in Vision in the Dark. The results and findings reveal a positive response towards motion sensor speakers and show more inclination for it as compared to human guides taking into consideration the overall experience.
