In this session of The Conversation Series, we discussed the relation between writing and critical thinking with Professor Durba Chattaraj, Assistant Professor of Anthropology, and Director of Writing, Asoka University. Professor Chattaraj, a scholar of writing pedagogy, anthropology, and critical thinking, addressed the benefits of creative, ‘out-of-syllabus’ approaches to teaching writing. She spoke about the power of writing, traditional knowledge systems in terms of rote learning (Ratta), mix of modern education, and the lack of reasoning. She also shared her thoughts on the reason behind the need for rote learning, its inefficiency, and how opening up classrooms could be the way forward. Here she is in conversation with Professor AP Ashwin Kumar, Associate Professor, Amrut Mody School of Management, and Director, Centre for Learning Futures, Ahmedabad University.en_US
